"Adventures, I used to call them. I used to think that they were things the wonderful folk of the stories went out and looked for, because they wanted them, because they were exciting and life was a bit dull...But that's not the way of it with the tales that really mattered, or the ones that stay in the mind. Folk seem to have just landed in them, usually...I expect they had a lot of chances, like us, of turning back, only they didn't. And if they had, we shouldn't know, because they'd have been forgotten."

Vacation for 5!

The kids had an entire week for spring break this year, so we took advantage of it and drove out to DC for the week. We left on Friday and came back the next Saturday. Such fun adventures! We were tourists in DC, seeing all the monuments, memorials and Smithsonian museums, went out to Mount Vernon (Anthony's request to see George Washingtons house), the new air and space museum, Arlington... it was a busy few days! My sister lives in the area so we had a great place to stay and company! We were all pretty excited that she was able to take the week off and spend it with us.

The highlight of DC was touring the White House! Alina wasn't able to go because the minimum age is 5.. and she was a few days short of that. So the boys and E were able to go with my sister. They got to tour the West wing and they even seen the Oval office and other area's! They were given hand signed pictures from Obama himself. They were thrilled and talked about it for days!

Then we drove up to Philadelphia for the last few days. We stopped off in Hershey, PA on the way there at the chocolate factory, one of our favorite places out there. In Philly, we were able to see Independence Hall and downtown, and we took a big bus tour and seen way more than we ever would have by walking or driving ourselves. Then we went to the Please Touch Museum. It was awesome, the kids had so much fun. Its a full hands on childrens museum! And of course we got to see the famous 'Rocky stairs' at the Art Museum, and the statue. That night we ate at a local Philly Cheesesteak place called Tony Luke's. If you didn't know, that is Anthony's middle name.... and his nickname is Tony Luke. He got a hat out of the deal, along with a big philly cheesesteak, one of his faves!

It was a great trip. We returned home exhausted and ready to get back into routine.

The new Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum. Its out by Dulles airport and its awesome!

Mt Vernon

Mt Vernon and property is gorgeous. Dont miss it if you are out in the DC area.

I have a picture of Al on this tree when he was 2!

Down by the Potomac. Practicing her duck face, apparently.

How she spent the entire vacation ... 'I want to push!'

My sister and I

Being tourists...

I have a picture of Al on this post when he was 2, all cute wearing sunglasses and a hat! Then I have one of the two boys, ages 4 and 17mos, respectively, on the same post. Now this one of all three. Its tradition! I need to put them all on a collage!

The boys really enjoyed the museums

Going into the White House!

We'll take a dozen!

She wanted in on that action, too! (no, we didn't buy them. They were $30!)

Independence Hall

Hanging out in Philly

We even found a little bit of Ukraine in Philadelphia!

Looks like a blast! My dad lives near DC so I went there quite a bit as a kid. We got to take our boys about 4 years ago and it was one of our favorite vacations ever! I wonder why they had a Ukrainian flag in Philly?
