"Adventures, I used to call them. I used to think that they were things the wonderful folk of the stories went out and looked for, because they wanted them, because they were exciting and life was a bit dull...But that's not the way of it with the tales that really mattered, or the ones that stay in the mind. Folk seem to have just landed in them, usually...I expect they had a lot of chances, like us, of turning back, only they didn't. And if they had, we shouldn't know, because they'd have been forgotten."

Getting to the core

Well after weeks of physical therapy and working Alina's legs and hips, its become pretty clear that the core of her balance issues is, well, her core! She has a weak trunk and while she can move her little legs forever, her core gets tired and she loses her balance.

When we got her home she couldn't sit on the floor on her butt. If you sat her down on her butt with her feet straight out or crossed her legs she would tip over just like a baby. However she had amazing balance if she sat on her knees with her legs in a 'W' sit.

For the last month at PT and here at home we've been working on her core muscles only. She is exhausted after PT and working on it here at home, but its paying off. she can sit criss cross on the floor and reach for things ,move around and she doesn't even lose her balance anymore! She can sit on her little exercise ball and reach, stretch, and bend! She can lean against the wall (her back on the wall) and stand up by herself and her balance is getting pretty good, she can stand on her own for around 5 minutes now before getting tired and losing her balance and having to sit down.

She's such a hard worker. She never gives up in PT, even if she's frustrated and tired. She knows that its helping her and she loves her physical therapists... who are finally onto her 'look at me I'm cute' ways. :) She's determined, motivated, and working so hard to get up to where she should be. We are so proud of her, and best of all... she's proud of herself!

I absolutely LOVED meeting her this weekend! She has come so far in such a short time. She is going to soar. Ok, she already is. LOL
